Maria Christina Rizea is the woman who is working night and days to help these innocent dogs.

But long before this shelter ‘Hope for the Future’ was established. Maria was rescueing dogs. She was a young woman when it all started.

Maria comes from a small mountain town in Valcea. In her mid-20s, she returned from a holiday in Greece, where she had spent her vacation on feeding the hungry cats. When she got home, she finds a cat kitten thrown into a container. She rescue the kitten and within a very short time she has between 20 and 30 cats living in her small apartment.

Shortly after, Maria finds some puppies hiding in the back of a house on the street.  From that moment being a whole ordinary youngster who was interested in clothes, travel and other ordinary things in life, shifted her focus. The only thing she could see was all the distress and hunger that was going on around her and as sensitive soul she is, she had to help those in need around her.

Maria bought old bread for every penny she owned, which she used to feed the dogs. She did not have much insight into nutrition or the knowledge that feeding the dogs and cats would mean she could not stop feeding them again as more and more stray dogs and cats would just keep appearing also as none of them were neutralized.

For 5 years she went out every night. In rain, sleet, snow and severe hard frost, she walked around on the streets and in the woods to feed the animals that suffered so terribly from hunger and cold being trashed by humans and then had to survive in the best possible way . She had to do it after dark, as the people around her spat at her, hit her, threw things at her, and called her words of all kinds. And at the same time, her apartment became overcrowded with animals she was trying to help.

Maria had no knowledge of the death shelters for dogs that already existed made by the Romanian authorities and when she gained knowledge and insight about the living death going on in these shelters, there was no way back for her. She left her entire personal materialistic life, to devote herself entirely to the work for animals.

Maria realized that she had to try to gather others who felt like her , to provide knowledge and information to the people and politicians about the need to neutralize and stop breeding dogs and cats as the problem only grew and grew.

Now  she is spending all her time  helping the animals from the streets.  Her network has grown due to year long effort on social medias. with cry for help., She is supported  and surviving from the donations she receives. Where she spend all she can on food, vet treatments ect for the animals. She gets clothes sent from all of us around her in other countries, in the same way that she receives blankets, etc. for the animals.

Maria has a  daughter who has grown up with her grandparents for several personal reasons, including culture and tradition. She is today 18 years old, and helping Maria  on a daily basis.

Maria’s husband Adrian is the father of their little boy, Vladimir, who was born in August 2020. Adrian gave up his regular paid job to help Maria instead. His heart also beats for the dogs and he is, among other things, the one who is driving the animals that have been adopted out of the country, while Maria stays at home and looks after the dogs. In the shelter.

Maria is currently participates in neutralization programs and helps to get more than 500 both privately owned dogs and cats as well as street dogs and cats neutralized per year.

People can come for free and get this done, due to the work of  Maria.

Maria gets up before the sun and works all day and until late at night, 7 days a week. She sleeps less than 4 hours a day, so she and her family  can help as many animals as possible.
